Why AL-Ramahi??
In Al-Muzayri'a everyone knew that they all come from the same root so they
never used a last name to identify each other. The used the first name,
the father's name, and the grandfather's name and then the Hamooleh. For
example if someone is living in Al-Muzayri'a now, one would call him
Hamad Hamdan Hamed & (Hamooleh).
Now to answer the question, lets run a little history since we are on the
subject. When students left Al-Muzayri'a to pursue
their education in nearby villages, they needed to identify themselves as people
from Al-Muzayri'a. So, they added the name Al-Ramahi to indicate the
relation to their great grandfather
Romeh, who
established the first Ramahi family in Al-Muzayri'a.
In addition to students, everyone else that left Al-Muzayri'a for work used the
last name Al-Ramahi.
Moreover, in the 10th of July 1948 Al-Muzayri'a was lost and everyone left to nearby villages and
cities. Some of these are: Ain El-Foarah (
عين
الفواره
), Ain AaBood (عين عابود), Der Gassaneh
(ديرغسانه), Rantees (رنتيس), Elliban (اللبن), Ramallah
(رام الله), Al Beereh (البيره), Jerusalem (القدس), Nables
(نابلس). From there people moved to other countries such as,
Jordan, Syria, Egypt, Iraq, Brazil, Canada, USA, ...,
etc.
Fortunately, people form Al-Muzayri'a used the last
name Al-Ramahi to be able to identify each other as
relatives in there new homes. It is to our great benefit that the name
AL-Ramahi was used so that we are able to locate each other. From the
moment after Al-Muzayri'a was lost, it was up to our fathers and grandfathers to
keep us intact and from now on it is up to us to take advantage of that and get
to know one another on a personal level before we lose what is left. It is
true that we all live in different places and have our lives. But, it is
also true that we all share the same roots and we all come from Al-Muzayri'a in Palestine. Let us at least
continue what people started back in Al-Muzayri'a, that is
making sure that we keep us together. This site is just an attempt from us
to help do just that.
